About

Palyul Clear Light, Inc. was established in 2005 by Khenchen Tsewang Gyatso Rinpoche under the late HH the 3rd Penor Rinpoche's guidance and blessing.

We focus primarily on teachings from the Nyingma tradition, particularly those of the Palyul tradition. Through our publications and our media platform we hope to give as much information as possible and to clarify any misconceptions that may arise concerning the Vajrayana teachings. Also we wish to help people engage with the dharma by providing financial aid for study.

The Late HH the 3rd Penor Rinpoche

The salient fact of the person known as Penor Rinpoche is that he cares for beings ceaselessly, borne by the two wings of pure compassion and perfect wisdom.

The facts of the life of the man known to so many as His Holiness are that:

He was born in Kham, Tibet in 1932 and passed away at Namdroling Monastery in Bylakuppe, India in 2009. In those all too brief 78 years he was raised, educated, trained in and accomplished the highest traditions and practices of Tibetan Buddhism to become the 11th throne holder of the Palyul lineage until the time of his death, and supreme throne holder of the Nyingma tradition of Tibetan Buddhism from 1993-2001.

As a refugee in South India after leaving Tibet in 1961, he and a handful of monks set about constructing a new monastery, now one of the largest in the world. Namdroling Monastery houses, feeds, clothes, educates, and provides medical care for more than 5000 monks and nuns. Moreover, His Holiness traveled the world tirelessly, inspiring students, establishing Palyul centers, and preserving and promoting Tibetan Buddhism from Asia to Europe to North America to Australia. He sat in his final meditation on March 27, 2009 and displayed many miracles at that time.

His Holiness the 4th Penor Rinpoche

The activities of the previous Drubwang Pema Norbu Rinpoche were boundlessly kind. His activities benefited people spiritually, but also on an ordinary level. Read about the previous Holiness Penor Rinpoche here.

A manifestation of His Holiness' immense kindness was to swiftly take rebirth in this human realm. Thus, it was a matter of great joy and pleasure when we were able make the announcement informing all the disciples and well-wishers of His Holiness Penor Rinpoche residing around the globe that our beloved root guru had been reborn in Tibet on the 31st of December in 2011. According to His Holiness Jadrel Rinpoche's prophecy letter, Penor Rinpoche's Yangsi (reincarnated being), was born near Leten Tramo Drag or Dung Lung Tramo Drag, the sacred place where the Nyingthing Yabshyi (The Four Cycles of Heart Essence Teachings) was revealed. Based upon this prophecy letter, combined with pure visions of Tulku Thubten Palzang Rinpoche, the Yangsi was authentically recognized.

On 31st July 2014, the auspicious day of the Buddha's First Turning of the Wheel of Dharma, the 4th Day of the Sixth Tibetan month, 2141 Royal Year-the Yangsi was enthroned at Palyul Monastery in Baiyu, Shichuan, China (Kham), given the name "Mingyur Dechen Garwang Zilnon Dorje." Since then, he has been receiving the tutoring and education befitting his position.

The 3 Heart Sons

HH Karma Kuchen Rinpoche

From lifetime to lifetime, Pema Norbu Rinpoche and Karma Kuchen Rinpoche have alternately cared for each other from childhood, training each the other in the practices and traditions of the Palyul lineage and thereby insuring the continuity and unbroken quality of the Nam Chö cycle.
As has recurred so often in the past, HH Karma Kuchen Rinpoche now cares for the entire Palyul community. Born in 1970 and raised and educated as a monk from an early age, he excelled at his religious studies and practices and was appointed by HH Penor Rinpoche as head of the Palyul Mother Monastery in Tibet in 1994. There he built many temples, stupas, prayer wheels, and images of deities. He was appointed a lineage holder of the Palyul tradition by Penor Rinpoche in August 2000 and is now the 12th throne holder, overseeing the far-flung Palyul family.
HH Kuchen Rinpoche is known for his strict and pure observance of all the vows of a monk and is thus the embodiment of pure conduct in these degenerate times. He displays a gentle loving-kindness to all, backed by a quiet sense of humor. He has traveled widely, visiting the Palyul centers worldwide.

HH the Fourth Gyangkhang Rinpoche

The Fourth Gyangkhang Rinpoche was born in India. H.H. Penor Rinpoche, H.H. Dudjom Rinpoche and H.H. Dilgo Khyentse Rinpoche recognized him as the authentic incarnation of the Third Gyangkhang Rinpoche.

At the age of four, His Holiness Penor Rinpoche invited him to stay in Namdroling Monastery and thereafter looked after him as his own child. He entered Ngagyur Nyingma Institute.

In his fifth year in his university, Gyangkhang Rinpoche displayed his scriptural knowledge by giving a lengthy discourse on Sangwa Nyingpo (Magical Net Tantra, a Mahayoga Teaching) in front of His Holiness The Fourteen Dalai Lama and an assembly of thirty thousand people both lay and ordained. His Holiness the Dalai Lama praised his wisdom in front of all and offered him a khata, encouraging him to hold, sustain and disseminate the teachings of Lord Buddha for the benefits of all beings.

He received the empowerments, oral transmissions and pith instructions on the whole Kama and Terma teachings from His Holiness Dilgo Khyentse Rinpoche, Dodrubchen Rinpoche, Jadrel Rinpoche, Khenpo Jigme Phuntsok Rinpoche, and Nyoshul Khen Rinpoche.

He has represented His Holiness by giving advice, instructions and teachings in many dharma centers around the world.

HH Mugsang Kuchen Rinpoche

HH Mugsang Kuchen Rinoche was born to Penpa Dorjee (father) and Sonam Yangzom (mother) in Nepal, on the tenth day of the fourth Tibetan Month with miraculous signs.

At the age of two, His Holiness Dudjom Rinpoche and his Holiness Drubwang Penor Rinpoche recognized him as the unmistakable reincarnation of Chogtrul Kunzang Sherab. From the age of three, Penor Rinpoche looked after him with great compassion and care.

When he reached the age of four, he recieved the Rinchen Terzöd Empowerment cycle from His Holiness Drodrub Rinpoche. Beginning from age five, he learned to read and write in Tibetan and began training in the distinct rituals of the Palyul tradition. Subsequently, he received the Kama Empowerments, instructions on Ngöndro, Tsa Lung and Dzogchen directly from His Holiness Penor Rinpoche. Thus he has upheld and continued the supreme activities of his predecessor. He has studied common sciences such as grammar, poerty , logic as well as the uncommon science of Buddhist philosophy at Ngyagyur Nyingma University at Namdroling in South India.
